Buddleia
Known to many as the ‘Butterfly bush’. It has wonderful, richly scented flowers in summer, that attract both butterflies and other beneficial insects. They are easy to grow and very hardy. The smaller varieties can be grown in pots. Flower colours include blue, blue/purple, pink, pink/red, white and yellow.
Many class it as a weed, as it can self-seed easily and become giant in one year. But it can be easily pruned. Dead-head regularly to prolong the flowering season and to stop prolific self-seeding. Prune back to 1ft (30cm) above ground level each spring.
